A double feature of two new solo dance-theatre works are developed, choreographed and performed by local contemporary professionals Ana Mendez and Teresa Barcelo for a world-premiere event. ANIMAL Ana Mendez, independent performance artist and native of Miami, presents an evening performance event in collaboration with sound artist Ricardo Guerrero and video artist Federico Nessi. In this extended version of the original solo performance Parrucca, ANIMAL explores the distortions of self-imagination through a corporeal expression of the rhythms of one’s inner-soundtrack. Using structured improvisation, Mendez blindly plows through space under a flowing cassette-tape ribbon wig in a tantrum that is raw and relentless.
MONSTERS After her 2008 Here & Now solo hip-hop/aerial piece Z-minus, where her fluffy-stuffed Z friends made their stage debut, independent performance artist Teresa Barcelo tells a classic story about two new not so classic characters. In MONSTERS, Goy and Birl, meet and become fond of each other... and, well, you probably know the rest. Narrated through music, Teresa portrays both characters – and their relationship.
